exactly 14 days to leaving for china. Not sure if i am looking forward to the study trip. So much things not done, lst time leaving everyone in singapore for 2 years! Not sure if i can tolerate in a less comfortable environment. Faintz. No more mum’s nicey dinner, no more gg out wif dearie and frenz. More independent lives with everyday trips from hostel to hospitals, and surviving with the other 59 students. Lotsa doubts abt it. I gonna miss all the things here, all the things i have taken for granted. haiz.

Still gg to lab, probably have to stay for another week in nus. Did my lst drug expt, yeah, it was successful, and our hypothesis was correct! yeah! next week, have to carry out another drug expt. Hopefully, will be good, so that i dun have to go back next next week, which is the last week b4 i left for china.

oh ya, Happy 2nd year anni to dearie! Mit up wif dear on thursday after my medical check-up. Went to eat at Aston. Cheap and nice, i would say. Thanks dearie for the presents, 2nd part of surprises from the europe trip and hope u like the cuffs and ties. hee. Thanks for all the love and care for the past 2 years!

Pathology was nice! lol. Watched wif dearie in his house, with his little sis. lol. It was my 3rd RA movie (the others were Lust and Caution and SAW 4). Well, it was not as gross as Saw, and we were all munching chips throughout the whole show, even the parts on cutting up the skull, shit bursting out from the cut intestine, throwing the liver at another guy, etc. The plot was kinda unexpected as well. NICE!!! Dear was asking me y i have no feelings when seeing dose disturbing parts..lol..probably i have seen enough of them during pathology modules. lol.

today, was the last day of swimming events in olympics. Yeah, and michael phelps won his 8th gold medal, and 14 gold medals in his career. His everyday, eat, sleep, swim had helped him to be the best olympian in the world, and he was indeed built for swim, wif his structure of the body, long arms of 2m in length, and heart pumping twice as much blood as normal adult. The swimming olympics was ended with an appreciation medal awarded to him, after all, he had broken mark splitz 8 golds and other great olympians of 9 golds in their career. I still rmb how crazy over phelps during 2004, Athens, and my bio tutor ms tiew, even cut out magazine article on him to me!! lol. this year, i watched phelps’s actions in lab, and even boss was asking me, wah..hu u supporting lo. lol. Boss so nice, nvr scold me for creating a swimming craze in lab lo. hehe. Yeah!!! Congrats, MICHAEL PHELPS.

Well, some updates for the past weeks..

lately been busy with the poster presentation, and finallie, the FYP has come to an end! yeah! All the running ard printing the poster and practising the presentation to boss and dearie. Oh ya, next time, anyone of you want print poster, can go sunshine plaza lo, vv cheap, only 10 bucks for a A1 size poster, and glossy somemore.

Poster presentation was ok, the 2 examiners were both virologists, and i was bombarded with lotsa qns from one one them lo. Faintz. He even asked for a 5sec break to get his drink b4 cont asking me qns again. It was so crazy and frightening lo. After all the questioning, i felt so dizzy lo. lol. He was an expert in viro, and tem lo. faintz. Despite all dese, i was glad that he loved all my pics, and in fact, he was impressed by all the nice and beautiful em pics. YEAH! The other examiner was less frightening. Basically, he ended up asking me abt my trip to beijing and lab in nus after i had presented to him. lol. Well, he collaborated with boss and big boss before, and he even asked me to send his regards to them. lol. heard from boss that, he knew both examiners, and both were his frenz lo. Wah..din noe boss was so powerful.. lol.. probably cuz thr’re not many virologists in spore. He even knew one of the examiner’s wife vv well lo. hohoho..Boss was telling me that despite being bombarded by the exmainer, i shld be glad that at least i gt someone who know EM and will appreciate the EM, and all the nice pics which were so hard to achieve. YES, i agree.

Thanks dear for coming down to sch early to practise with me, and my lab frenz from coming down all the way from nus to support. Thanks all who come by to visit my poster. lol. A pity boss was not there, cuz he had so many meetings that afternoon, and he asked my whole lab ppl to go down to support me. lol. Well, they made lotsa comments abt the posters. I think dose students who did virus work, many was questioned by my lab ppl. faintz. well, the comments dey made aint vv nice, and it did reflect poorly on the bms students lo. well..

After that, went to catch mummy in jp wif labbies. It was not that fantastic. I still prefer dark knight lo. lol. Maybe i was a bit tired, and din reallie enjoy it ba.

Today, went back to lab to start my experiment again, have to finish my expts and papers within these 3 weeks to be in time for pubishing b4 i leave for china. Faintz. Gonna b extremely busy b4 gg china, all the packing, health checkup, meeting up with frenz, spending more time wif family and dearie, and gg lab…faintz!!!!! and of cuz, catching the OLYMPICS!!! omg..the opening ceremony was WAH!!!! the fireworks, and the lighting of the olympic torch were so magnificent!!! and my MICHAEL PHELPS won the lst swimming event gold!! yeah!!! 7 more to go DUDE!!!

Happening weekend..

Friday, went back ntu to hand in thesis and tcm meeting regarding our trip to china. Then, rushed off to thiong bahru for the lab dinner treat at melting pot, holiday inn atrium hotel. My lst time thr, buffet food was not bad. Had a fun time with the lab ppl, and we sae julian hee there too, taking his dinner. lol.

Saturday, was the ndp rehersal. Haven been to the ndp parade since p5 lo. It was exciting and nice. Especially the performance by dark knights. It was so impressive, forming a heart shaped in the shy. The fireworks was beautiful as well, forming the S works, meaning shine, singapore spirit. Pity, din manage catch that with the camera. In fact, the fireworks was so much, 3/4 of what they’ll be having on the actual day. Overall, it was good! then dear and i walked all the way to lau pa sat for our dinner cum supper, and followed by a walk around the singapore river before catching the last train back home.

Tomorrow will have to go back lab to discuss my new expts, and prepare for this friday poster presentation! scary!

Yeah!! bench work in lab finally come to an end on friday. FYP coming to an end. Thesis submission, this coming friday, and poster presentation next friday. Haven done the final draft and printing lo. faintz. and i still have to go lab. Boss has more new ideas coming up for my paper. So, might still have to go back lab even after fyp.

Finally, can rest for this weekend again!! Yeah!! Went to watch dark knight ystd wif dearie. 2.5 hours. It was one of the best blockbuster dis summer. Reallie exciting, with great effect, and worth the $$. Its better than red cliff lo. lol. And today, managed to mit up with bl and cs. Haven mit them for a long time.

Oh ya, last week, wed was another happening day for our lab. It was a combined lunch for our lab and big boss’s lab @ yishun. A combined treat from the honours students last year.

Fri, going back ntu again to hand in my thesis, and tcm meeting for all of us, after that, the welcome cum farewell dinner treat from boss for our lab. Yeah!

Time to update my blog before ts gg to complain again. lol.

Well, everything still the same. lab lab lab. most ppl by now should have finished their benchwork concentrating on their thesis. argh, poor me, i am still stuck with the never-finished expts. faintz. so much expts to do, and so much to write for my results, damn, i definitely gg to exceed the word limit. 6000 words for one thesis, well.. it shouldnt be called a thesis then, more like a lab report. The funny thing is that boss asking me to do the rest of my expts slowly, when there is only 2 weeks left!!! faintz. maybe, he’s worried i be so kan chiong and screwed up my expts. well, i did lo. argh. past few days, i m down with flu, and my cells gt containminated, despite the fact the i am already wearing mask to do work. sianz.

one gal in my lab is doing mice work, and i went to the animal farm to have the experience of it. hehe. so fun lo, the mice are so cute. They usually deliver the mice in family, 5-6 newborns with a mother. The thought of injecting stuffs into the brain of the mice is indeed cruel, well, research on mice is like that. Its reallie vv different from the cell and virus work i am doing now, and definitely interesting and more dangerous ba.

commencement for the life sci batch in nus on last friday. the 2 honours students came back and took pics wif us. so exciting. looking at them in the grad gown, i just cant wait for mine to come soon. well, 2 yrs later lo, so long!! lol.

dearie back from europe, and i have received part 1 of my presents. wah..so many lo.. hehe.. thanks dear. cant wait for my part 2. lol.

Decided to give myself a break dis weekend, cuz i haven have a non-lab weekend since i started fyp. faintz. A bit tired le lo, after all the 3 months of benchwork. Since now, the expts are not so tendious, and instead of rushing them at one go, i decided to take my time to do it over the 2 weeks, and at the mean time, do my thesis too. Went to watch red cliff with dearie one sat at grand cathay. I think its a nice show, though dear was saying he preferred the andy lau’s version of 三国演义, and he mentioned there was too much humor. lol. well, i like a bit of humor in it.

My lab ppl at a glance..

Been busy with lab lately, trying to rush my project. However, no matter how much time or effort i put in, i always ended up lots of unfinished work to do everyday. faintz. everyone was saying they always finish their project, just few days before the dateline. Will it be the same for me too??!! faintz. Trying to draft out my report on whatever results i have now, but looking at the state i m writing, i would probably exceed the word limit. hello, who would write a thesis with only 6000 words, isnt it be a lab report instead. argh. i tried to ask for the extension from the coordinator, and ended up being fu yan by her again. argh. she was telling me it was only allowed by special lab-based project, and i should just write a full draft and revisit it again before requesting for it. hell..aint mine lab-based?? i m the only one doing em lo, and aint it special??!! it requires a lot of writing up and description esp for those ignorant hur not doing any em stuffs. just 6000 words for em project, aint it a bit too brief and lack of substance??!! So irritating lo!!!

Though ppl in my lab has been nice and friendly, well, 人不可貌相. Some people might seems kind and helpful by the appearance, but deep down inside them, they are filled with jealousy and stabbing you with their curses. Its so horrible to be working in such environment lo, cuz u nvr noe when u will fall into such traps. haiz. i just have to be independent and try my best lo, and ignore those black sheep as possible.

I truly respect my boss a lot, from the bottom of my heart. I must say he is a good young scientist, and a very good supervisor who goes all out to help his students. Though sometimes, he might be a bit crazy and pressurising, i could feel his passion for research in it. Maybe that’s how instill my liking for it as well, and made me understand that, it doesnt matter if your expt fails, try again and again. Look into the cause and problem, and find solution to it.

Enough of lab stuffs. Euro’s final tonite!! i am rooting for my fav GERMANY!!! Germany shall rule tonite!! Dear is supporting germany as well lo.. yeah!! however, i must agree to what he said. It’s a possibility that spain might win tonite, looking at how they won over russia few days ago. Russia was strong at that time too, beating holland in the quarter-finals, but they are too “robotic”, and the Spanish was too tricky for them. Germany could be another russia??!! i certainly hope not. Tonite, shall be the nite when 2 best frenz, ts and i become rivals!! lol. A pity i cant watch, cuz tml 7plus in the morning have to reach lab. Please update me the score ya.

Dearie is back from sweden after travelling almost the whole of europe!! envious!!! yeah!!! Thanks dearie for the lots of presents!! love it, though only see part of it. hehe.

Better go rush my ppt for tml meeting and report draft, which i promised boss to hand in this coming monday, and i haven start!! faintz..

Hmm, nothing much to update these days. Been in lab everyday, trying to rush my project, well, with just 5 more weeks to the end of fyp. Somehow, i think i dun mind lab life now, except for the fact that, my horrendous long hours and lack of sleep is giving me eyebags problem. In fact, now i have the worst eyebags, that could provide a nest for the bacteria around me. Faintz.

I seem to be occupied everyday in lab, forever busy, yet, my project seems nvr ending. faintz. There seems to be more and more that i need to do to affirm my results for every expt. maybe, i m just paranoid. Boss been telling me not to worry, for he thinks i have sufficient time to finish the project, whenever i keep saying, “aiya, no time le..must faster do this expt, cant wait..i still gt so much to do, when just 5 weeks left!!” Maybe i do not want to end up on the last day still rushing my last bit of project. lol.

Despite the fyp has taken up the whole of my holiday. I felt it is one of the most enriching hols that i had. I learnt a lot of things, not just from the scientific point of view, but also some of the skills i need in life. Somehow, i didnt regret not taking projects in school. I felt so much happier being so busy now, with so much expts to do and so much different microscopy skills i learnt for a short project, over-exhausting myself etc, but whenever i see my results, i felt so happy. Even boss was saying that he was impressed i could do so much in just 3 months. hehe. Well, of cuz, i have sacrificed so much of my time for it, and certainly hopes hard work do pay off.

Somehow, recently my cells have been disobedient. Ever since the lst contamination. It has been giving me the same problem again and again. Argh. The post-grads were all helping me to look for my source of problem, but it was to no avail. Then, one of them was saying maybe it just has to reach a certain number of containminated flasks and this problem will stop. This has been a tradition in big boss’s lab, whereby everyone went thru this problem. faintz..but i have no time for such nonsense.  cells, do be good, and i sing u songs everyday. lol

Next week is boss’s bday, we’ll be giving him a surprise celebration. lol.

Oh ya, the fyp and lab has been making me neglect the euro cup.. argh. but at least so far portugal and germany are doing well.. except for the fact that germany lost to croatia. argh. buck up germany, dun b so complacent. aiyo.

ok, better go pack up and go home le..dad have come and fetch me from lab. ya, i have just spent my whole sat in lab. faintz.

Just wake up. Cant believe it, i slept 12 hours last nite, from 9pm to 9am. Couldnt help it at all, i was too tired, and the lack of slp was accumulating every single day, and seriously, i need some rest. haiz.

It’s weekend le, and i wanted to go shopping. sorry ts, probably couldnt mit up with u guys this weekend. It’ll be another weekend in lab. will be stuck in lab for 2 whole days, so much things to do, lab work aside, boss oso requested me to look up for more ideas on what my images, and i think i gonna be stucked in the em’s small library doing reading up during the waiting time for my expt, and prepared for meeting presentation and my 2nd draft. Lab lab lab..so busy lo..

ok, gonna go and prepare for lab le..shall update soon..praying that for next 7 weeks, everything will be smooth-going..

Bad day, with “good” ending

well, today is quite a bad day for me in lab, for everyone in lab in fact. Early in the morning, i went lab to take a look at my hard work cells, and to find that they are all dead, just one night. Horrendous. I was so worried suddenly, with 7 more weeks to go, and my cells giving me such troubles. haiz. so i broke the news to boss. Boss was quite upset for all my cells were dead suddenly, den more troubles came along the way. Another honours student broke some glass slides while doing expt, and this further irritated boss, and everything suddenly seems not right, and almost everyone gt mentioned and “scolded” by boss. All the sudden, our happy, fun lab turned into one that filled with tension, black glum face and quietness. Everyone’s mood suddenly changed for the bad one.  I couldnt help it at all but cry. my tears just flow, when i trying to get rid of all my hard work, all my cells. Then i just cry and cry, even when boss called me into his room to chat, and find solutions, i just burst out crying again. faintz. Well, research is like that, not everything is smooth-sailing, and maybe its my lst time facing such problem, whereby all my effort just gone with the wind within one nite, it was kinda a shock for me. haiz. nw, 7 more weeks to go, and i still met with such circumstances, i just have to return back every weekend to rush my project. Maybe cuz my project is a long one, as compared to dose in ntu, but somehow or another, i just wish i could finish all of it in time.

Results out. Well, earlier there has been rumors abt bms students screwed up patho exam. hmm. and one of my coursemate actually happened to email the prof and also asked abt this rumours. Here’s what he mentioned, “No I don’t think your class did badly at all. One must not be expecting A’s and B’s all the time. I personally think you all did reasonably, given the overall workload and the way you had to cramp pathology into 10 lectures. I am very impressed by some of the scripts I came across. The level of understanding of the subject is comparable to the medical students from NUS.” Hmm, is this a consolation for us. NO matter what, i must admit its hard to cramp the thick book into 10 lectures and expect us to have good exam results for that. Heard only one freak gt a- for patho, and the rest gt B- and C. Well, i am one of the rest.

Hmm, a bit disappointed with the patho i would say. However, i shouldnt expect too much oso, i didnt really get to study for it as well, for i was down with chicken pox, and feeling so sick that i couldnt really study and remeber any facts. I was even quarantined for the exam. hmm. still, i feel the addition of it to my bad grades collection just make me feel a bit uncomfortable. The rest of the modules are expected and hard work pays off. Though overall, it did pull up my caps, but if not for patho, miracle might have happen again. haiz. well, mum was indeed trying to console me, blaming on the pox for my patho, and encouraging me to work hard for fyp. well, after what happened today in lab, what can i say. haiz.

Maybe i should concentrate more on my fyp now, instead of thinking of all dese. overall, results not bad, except for patho ba. Hopefully for next 7 weeks, the project will be smooth and no more unexpected obstacles. Praying hard.
